LOUIS VUITTON x WILSON COLLAB
For the Louis Vuitton Collab I was brought into the project to create an accurate 3D and 2D representation of our basketball. This allowed me to place their pattern in the most aesthetically pleasing location while ensuring that it could be communicated to the supplier and manufactured exactly as desired.
Teammates: Hudson Vantrease
3D CAD
Using Solidworks I created a dimensionally accurate 3D model of our basketball.
UV Unwrapping
UV unwrapping was an important step to transition the 3D model into a flat 2D representation of a basketball.
Pattern Placement
Using Adobe Illustrator I placed the Louis Vuitton pattern on the ball so that the LV portions of the pattern were in prominent locations and had room to breathe between the panel edges and other logos.
Rendering Confirmation
Renderings were useful throughout this process in-order to check that the 2D layouts appeared as I wanted them and also to communicate to the supplier how the debossed portions should look.
Lifestyle Photography
The Louis Vuitton photography of the ball shows clearly that the design intent was met and the pattern fell in a logical and pleasing way on the ball. Overall the project was a success and the basketballs sold out nearly instantly at a price of $2,210.
